Strasbourg came agonisingly close to securing a first-ever H2H away victory over Paris Saint-Germain in Ligue 1 at the 35th attempt, but squandered a two-goal lead to draw 3-3 as a chance to move top of the table slipped through their fingers.

This game looked set to be a stern test of PSG’s title credentials, but the hosts calmed any potential nerves by taking the lead inside six minutes. Senny Mayulu’s incisive pass found Bradley Barcola, who played a wonderful one-two with the returning Desire Doue before finishing with aplomb.

Not long after that goal, however, some slack play from Mayulu almost allowed Strasbourg to level as he was dispossessed by Ben Chilwell.

Diego Moreira’s cross was then flicked on target by Joaquin Panichelli and only parried out by Lucas Chevalier as far as Julio Enciso, but his shot was also saved by the PSG goalkeeper.

The visitors were confident in possession, with Abdoul Ouattara left frustrated as his ball across could not find a teammate, while at the other end, Barcola was denied by Strasbourg stopper Mike Penders.

Le Racing duly equalised on 26 minutes in some style, as Panichelli leapt majestically to power home a header from a cross by Guela Doue.

Panichelli displayed his aerial prowess again to set up a glorious chance for Enciso that he failed to take, but Strasbourg soon completed the comeback when Doue’s loose pass was seized on by Moreira, who exchanged passes with Valentin Barco before beating Chevalier, albeit somewhat scruffily.

Luis Enrique will have been infuriated that his side had squandered a lead for the second successive matchday, and things went from bad to worse for PSG just after the break as Lucas Beraldo’s wayward clearance dropped for Moreira, whose cross was converted smartly by Panichelli for his sixth goal in as many games.

PSG were handed a lifeline as Beraldo’s long ball was controlled by Desire Doue, who was brought down in the box by Penders. Goncalo Ramos dispatched the resulting penalty, reducing the arrears and setting up a grandstand finish.

Strasbourg had to try and weather a storm in the latter stages, with Lee Kang-in hitting the woodwork and Penders thwarting Ramos on the follow-up.

Eventually, it was Mayulu who found the net, heading in after his initial effort was saved.

Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Panichelli both missed the target with headers of their own as both teams pushed for a winner which ultimately didn’t arrive.

It’s the first time that PSG have dropped points at home since April as they remain top of the table for now, while Strasbourg again demonstrated why they are one of Europe’s most exciting sides under Liam Rosenior.
