It was a successful weekend for Africans in Europe in terms of goalscoring, though Alieu Fadera (23) and Youssef Maleh (26) both received red cards.

England

Southampton secured a 2-1 away win over Ipswich Town with Nigeria internationals Paul Onuachu and Joe Aribo scoring the goals.

Heading to the Premier League encounter at Portman Road Stadium, the Saints had gone on a poor run of three consecutive defeats.

They showed the desire to win by taking the lead in the 21st minute courtesy of Nigerian star Aribo. Nevertheless, it was cancelled out by Liam Delap ten minutes later.

With three minutes left on the clock, Onuachu drilled home the winner from a rebound off Kamaldeen Sulemana's shot.

Even at the result, Southampton remain at the base of the English topflight table with just nine points from 24 matches played so far.

At Goodison Park, Malian midfielder Abdoulaye Doucoure and Senegalese forward Iliman Ndiaye were on target as Everton demolished Leicester City.

Doucoure opened scoring in the opening 10 seconds – the fourth-fastest goal in Premier League history, and the quickest ever scored by a home team in the competition.

The Toffees went three goals in the first half with Beto netting a brace, while Ndiaye a fourth in the 90th minute.

Thanks to this convincing result, David Moyes’s men extended their winning streak to three to occupy the 15th spot in the log.

At the Vitality Stadium, league leaders Liverpool recorded a 2-0 away win over Bournemouth.

The hosts went close to scoring in the opening stages through Antoine Semenyo but his left-footed shot crashed against the upright.

Salah then opening scoring for the Reds on the half-hour mark following Lewis Cook’s rash challenge on Cody Gakpo before sealing victory for his side in the 75th minute. 

Ghana international Thomas Partey and Senegal’s Pape Matar Sarr completed a beautiful weekend for African stars in Arsenal’s 5-1 demolition of Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur’s 2-0 away win at Brentford. 

Italy

Alieu Fadera was sent off for the first time in his career as Como bowed 2-0 to Bologna.

The Gambia international was given the marching orders in the first half for a second caution. 

Fadera received his first caution in the 37th minute for dissent after the referee failed to acknowledge a foul against him. 

His continued protests led to a second yellow card, resulting in a red card and his dismissal from the match.

Cesc Fabregas’ men ultimately paid the price, returning home with their heads bowed and dropping to 15th in the standings.

Also making the referee’s bad book over the weekend was Youssef Maleh during Empoli’s 4-1 defeat to Juventus.

Germany

Nigerian star Victor Boniface was on song as Bayer Leverkusen beat visiting Hoffenheim 3-1 in the German topflight. 

The Nigerian star broke the deadlock in the 15th minute, latching onto a pass from Alejandro Grimaldo before firing past goalkeeper Luca Philipp.

Before the visitors could settle down, Jeremie Frimpong doubled the hosts’ lead just four minutes later. Having been picked out by Aleix Garcia, the Dutchman made mistakes in finding the net.

Patrik Schick added a third in the 51st minute with Gift Orban's 62nd-minute effort for Hoffenheim proving a mere consolation.

In another Bundesliga fixture, Serhou Guirassy scored his ninth league goal of the season as Borussia Dortmund got a slim 2-1 away win at Heidenheim.

The league outing which was Mike Tullberg’s final game as interim manager following Niko Kovac’s arrival.

Dortmund were rewarded for their early dominance as they took a 33rd minute when Guinea international Guirassy profited from Waldemar Anton's acrobatic control for a close-range finish.

Maximilian Beier added a second for the visitors but the hosts reduced the deficit a minute later through Mathias Honsak, but could not prevent them from losing.

France

RC Lens brightened their chances of qualifying for Europe next season with a hard-fought 2-0 win at Montpellier. 

Angolan star M'Bala Nzola fired home after 33 seconds from close range for the fastest Ligue 1 goal so far this season.

In the 63rd minute, Swedish teenager of Nigerian background Jeremy Agbonifo scored within a minute of being introduced for his Lens debut, tapping home from Adrien Thomasson’s cut-back.

Côte d’Ivoire international defender Sinaly Diomande found the net for Auxerre in their 4-2 defeat to AS Monaco, while Morocco’s Osame Sahraoui scored a brace in Lille’s dominant 4-1 victory over St Etienne.

Ghana captain Andre Ayew (Le Havre) and Egypt’s Mostafa Mohamed (Nantes) round out the list of goal scorers in the French top-flight matches, which saw 33 goals across nine fixtures.
