Liverpool boss Arne Slot says they go to Manchester City on Sunday in good form.

Victories over Aston Villa in the Premier League and Real Madrid in the Champions League have arrested a stunning slide for the champions.

Slot admits the club is now in a happier place after the past week, particularly given the performance against Real at Anfield.

He said this morning: "I only focus on ourselves. Our main focus is on consistency at the moment.

"We have lost a few games, much more than we usually do. Now we have won two. We are focused on improving and getting players fit and we'll see where that leads to."

Slot continued: "We have reached that level of performance in other games as well when the playing style of opponent was compared to that.

"We have always known we can do so, I've shown them many times when playing styles are the same we can do what we did against Madrid.

"It was helpful the other team did what we expected them to do. In most other games it's something completely different to normal.

"There's still a lot of work to be done for the players to get a performance like that. We can expect from City a style we usually see but the challenge is they are very very good at it."

'Consistently losing'

Indeed, Slot continued the theme, insisting he could see a good consistency in the players' form, despite the results. The Dutchman argued that the past week was simply about getting rewards for their performance.

He explained: "We were very consistent, but we were consistently losing! That wasn't the idea!

"The idea is to do things consistently right. City playing there away from home is one of the most difficult challenges you have in a season.

"Every away game is difficult, City have felt that, they have lost two away games. Arsenal the exception this season.

"Very interesting game to look forward to. When I was in Holland, I did know when Liverpool were playing City and I was 100% in front of my TV screen watching.

"It's always worth watching as so many great individuals are playing. These teams nine out of 10 times give you what you expect.

"What I like about (Pep) Guardiola's team is you get what you're hoping for, a great game with no time-wasting and less of the things I am starting to dislike in football."

Improving Wirtz

Slot insists he's happy with what he is now seeing from £125 million signing Florian Wirtz. The Germany attacker started against Real Madrid midweek and for many pundits, impressed on the night.

His manager said: "Florian can play in more than just one position, he can play off the left which he did almost all the time in a 3-4-3 under Xabi at Leverkusen and before that as a number 10.

"It's about getting him positions he is good at. We would like to have him in and around the 18 yard box centrally or a bit more off the wings for him to create the amount of chances he has."

On the fitness of striker Alexander Isak, Slot was cautious.

"Isak will train with team again after three weeks out. I know I said his pre-season has ended a few weeks ago, but if you've had three weeks with rehab it doesn't bring him back to the levels he was at. Even though our rehab has done an incredible job you can't replicate games. Again, I have to say give him some time."

A key to the past week has been Dominik Szoboszlai and his impact in midfield, something Slot agrees with.

"He has been outstanding the whole season.

"Dominik has a lot of qualities, one of them is his work without the ball and his work without the ball I like every single game, but last two games was above probably his own standards."

Robbo versus Kerkez

On the debate around the left-back position at Liverpool, Slot was keen to talk up the form of Andrew Robertson. While Milos Kerkez has been questioned, the Dutchman stated veteran Robertson is again establishing himself this season as a key part in their plans.

He explained: "He has done really well in the last three games. I was very pleased to see he was able to play almost 90 in his last game. Hard to play three games in seven days.

"It's so helpful for every individual if the team plays at its best which is what I think we did in the last few days. He has been calm on the ball and done his job defensively.

"Being over 30 doesn't tell me anything if I look at Virgil (van Dijk), Mo (Salah) and Robbo - all three won the Premier League last season and played a big part. If a 23-year-old doesn't play well, nobody talks about age, but if a 32-year-old does, they do.

"I wouldn't say 32 is old for a football player in my opinion."

Continuing, Slot says it's been noticeable how much harder Mohamed Salah is now working off ball. The manager is backing his star man to take that attitude and form into Sunday's blockbuster.

He added: "I have noticed it as well, it has helped the team a lot as main focus on players who score lots of goals is goalscoring.

:It's very important for us to have Mo scoring goals but it's important for us to have Mo play like he did at City last season where he got a goal and an assist and helped team out defensively, which is what he's done lately."

Alisson boost

Before signing off, Slot revealed senior goalkeeper Alisson Becker will be back for the first game after this month's international break.

The Brazilian has been recovering from a hamstring injury suffered last month.

Slot stated: "Alisson for sure. But I don't expect Jeremie (Frimpong) to be fully fit for Forest."
