Tottenham Hotspur fans and experts have reacted with positivity and intrigue after the club signed Czech goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky (21) from Slavia Prague on Sunday morning.

Kinsky, whose father was also a goalkeeper at international level, has been an ever-present for the Czech league leaders this season after a loan spell with Pardubice last season and now has the chance to prove himself in London, where he will battle with Guglielmo Vicario for the number one spot.

He signed a six-year deal with the London side, for a reported 12.5 million pounds.

On Saturday, during their loss to Newcastle, Brandon Austin made his debut between the sticks for Spurs after number two Fraser Forster was ruled out at the last minute with illness. Now it is unclear, when Tottenham take on Liverpool in the first leg of their League Cup semi-final on Wednesday, who will start in goal.

It may come too soon for Kinsky, but fans and experts alike have welcomed the new signing as the London club continues to build a good young core of players.

Writing for football.london, Alasdair Gold gave a glowing review of the stopper, explaining: “The young Czech Republic stopper is a talent and has the highest save percentage (83.3%) of any goalkeeper in the top 10 European leagues this season and has conceded less goals per 90 minutes (0.37) and nobody has more clean sheets (12).

“Kinsky has fast reflexes, is quick off his line and very comfortable with the ball at his feet, with an eye for a quick pass both short and long with the occasional dribble and turn under pressure.”

The transfer was reportedly ‘masterminded’ by Danish sporting director Johan Lange using data algorithm, but some Spurs fans are not convinced by these methods.

One fan on X said: “Same algorithms that decided (Radu) Dragusin, BJ (Johnson) and (Timo) Werner were good fits?”

Whilst others believe that the new addition is a “smart” piece of business…

Kinsky has shown talent throughout the season for Slavia, and this moment against Karvina is one reason for Spurs fans to be excited about the prospect of their new man.

For others, Kinsky could be the ‘wow’ factor that the club may need at the back to improve their fortunes.

Kinsky himself has spoken of the honour of joining Tottenham and he is ready to take his first step outside of his home nation.

Speaking to Spurs’ media, he said: “I’m really happy to be here. Tottenham is a big name in the world, especially in the Czech Republic. For me, it’s a big honour and I am really happy.

“I spoke with the coaches, with the sporting director… and I really got the feeling that this is going to be the right choice. It’s going to be a new experience, I am really happy to make that first step outside of the country (Czech Republic) so I am really happy and really excited.”
