Sunderland and RB Leipzig reportedly agreed on a loan fee of €2.5 million for the 23-year-old Geertruida. The Black Cats have the option to make the move permanent for €23 million.
Geertruida, a 17-time Netherlands international, joined RB Leipzig in 2024 after leaving boyhood club Feyenoord, but has not succeeded in Germany as of yet. During the 2024/25 campaign, Geertruida started just 17 Bundesliga games, was subbed in seven times, and remained an unused substitute in seven more.
The versatile defender, who's capable of playing as a centre-half and right-back, played 202 games for Feyenoord between 2018 and 2024.
At Sunderland, Geertruida, who's under contract at RB Leipzig until 2029, is set to join Ajax striker and compatriot Brian Brobbey, who will reportedly join the Black Cats on a €20-million deal from Ajax.
