Fenerbahce have sacked legendary coach Jose Mourinho after failing to reach the league phase of the Champions League.

Mourinho joined the Turkish giants just over a year ago in June 2024 and finished second in the Super Lig in his one full season in charge before losing to Benfica in the Champions League play-offs at the start of this campaign.

That would ultimately be the final nail in the coffin as Fenerbahce confirmed he had been relieved of his duties on Friday.

Despite not having a disastrous 2024/25 season, Fenerbahce were a long way off the champions Galatasaray in the title race, and Mourinho was criticised for struggling to display a clear vision or style of play.

And failing to reach the Champions League earlier this week after not scoring in either leg against Benfica would have been of great concern to the hierarchy.
