After four successive away matches in the Superliga without finding the net, FC Nordsjaelland finally got on the scoreboard on foreign grass on Friday in Randers. But despite two goals it still wasn't enough to give them at least a draw.
The visitors managed to restore parity twice, but in the end the home side prevailed through a goal scored by the 19-year old Mike Themsen eight minutes from the end.
Thanks to the win Randers moved into fourth place with 45 points, while FC Nordsjaelland are in fifth place with three points less. Brondby are in third place with 47 points for one game less.
Randers took the lead after 20 minutes, when Norwegian midfielder Simen Nordlii launched a long-range stinging drive which hit the woodwork and followingly bounced off the back of FC Nordsjaelland keeper Andreas Hansen into the net.
The visitors then brought the game back on level terms after 37 minutes, when Levy Nene, after Paul Izzo had saved his first attempt, cooly slotted the ball home.
However, Randers still managed to restore their lead before the interval, when Norman Campbell finished off a finely orchestrated counter attack to make it it 2-1 after Kian Hansen had deflected his effort past Hansen.
The end-to-end action continued in a very entertaining second half where the visitors for the second time restored parity, when Benjamin Nygren after 73 minutes was given time and space in the Randers box to steer a wonderful effort into the far corner.
But eight minutes from the end Mike Themsen turned match winner, when he collected a through ball from Mathias Greve, cooly rounded Hansen and rolled the ball into the empty net to give Randers all three points.
