FC Midtjylland and Kristoffer Olsson have mutually agreed to terminate his contract, allowing the Swedish national team midfielder to return home to Norrköping – close to his family and with the opportunity to pursue his ambition of returning as a footballer.

Olsson rejoined FC Midtjylland in the summer of 2022 and quickly made a significant impact, both on and off the pitch. With his vast international experience, he brought composure, quality, and leadership to the team. His football intelligence and technical ability made him a key figure on the field, while his character and presence earned him great respect in the dressing room.

In February 2024, however, everything changed when Olsson was suddenly struck by a life- threatening illness.

"From day one, Kristoffer has been an outstanding player and an even greater person. Before his illness, he played a crucial role in our squad – with his vision, technical level, and ability to bring people together. He helped lift this club, and we’ve been incredibly proud to have him at FC Midtjylland", says Vice Director of Football Kristian Bach Bak, who has stood by Olsson throughout his time at the club.

Since the illness, Olsson has undergone a remarkable rehabilitation process – first fighting his way back to life, and later to the training ground. His strength and determination have left a lasting impression across the club.

Kristoffer Olsson himself reflects on his time at FC Midtjylland with deep gratitude.

When I look back at my time here, what I feel most is gratitude. I’ve had two spells at the club, and each time I’ve been met with warmth, care, and respect. When I fell ill, it felt incredibly unfair – but I’m thankful it happened here, where people truly knew me and supported me. The club, the people, the entire environment – they were there for me from the very first moment. That’s something I will carry with me for the rest of my life. FC Midtjylland is more than a football club – it’s a place that takes care of its people", says Olsson.

During Sunday’s Danish Superliga fixture against Brøndby IF at MCH Arena, fans will have the opportunity to pay tribute to Kristoffer Olsson. At halftime, the Swedish midfielder will step onto the pitch to say a personal and heartfelt farewell to the supporters.
