Vejle claimed what could be a hugely important win, when they clashed with AaB in a direct duel between relegation rivals in the Danish Superliga on Monday evening. Stefan Velkov scored the decisive goal for Vejle on a header after 64 minutes.

Kristoffer Wichmann has had a dreadful as head coach of AaB, who are fighting for survival in the Superliga.

Eight days after the dismissal of Menno van Dam, the Aalborg outfit lost 0-1 at home to Vejle in Wichmann's debut, which makes the relegation battle truly exciting before the last four rounds of matches in the league

Vejle and AaB are both below the relegation line with 21 and 23 points respectively, while Lyngby is just above with 23 points and a significantly better goal difference than their bottom rivals.

Had Vejle lost on Monday evening, the club would virtually have been relegated but thanks to Stefan Velkov's header midway through the second half, Vejle kept their hopes of staging a miracle alive.

The team lost its first ten games of the season, but can for the first time during this season move above the relegation line in the upcoming round.

The visitors were also the better team before the break, enjoying 64% of possession, however, without creating any clear-cut chances.

The biggest chance of the first half, however, fell to AaB midfielder Melker Widell on a counter-attack, but Vejle goalkeeper Igor Vekić made a great save in collaboration with the crossbar.

After the break, AaB seized the initiative with a solid advantage in possession, but Stefan Velkov headed Vejle on course for victory from a corner kick midway through the half.

AaB never really managed to put any pressure on the visitors' goal, but came close to an equalizer through a free kick on the crossbar by Mylian Jiménez and a strong header by Kasper Davidsen.
