Frimpong ran the show against Spain with four created chances, 10 won duels out of 17, and 7 dribbles. The winger's assist for Tijjani Reijnders' 2-1 came after a quick combination with Reijnders.
"I did that one-two with Tijjani (Reijnders), and I saw the space," Frimpong told the NOS. "I saw the Spain defence go to the near post, so I knew there was going to be space at the back for a cut-back. So I did that, and Tijjani did the rest."
Frimpong has been getting more chances under Koeman after struggling to find a spot at the start of his time at Oranje. The Bayer Leverkusen standout played arguably his best game for the Netherlands against Spain.
"I just try to give everything for the team," said Frimpong. "(I try to) use my speed and my energy. I just work hard for the team.
"It wasn't just me; the team played really well. I feel like we had a great game. We could have won that, but we were unlucky to get the red card and concede towards the end. I feel like, overall, we had a very good game."
Koeman has used Frimpong at both right-back and on the right wing, but what is Frimpong's own preferred position? "I like to play on the side, anywhere on the side.
"I play the same anyway. If I play right-back, right-mid, wing-back, right-wing - I play the same, so I don't mind."
'He's lethal'
National team coach Koeman praised Frimpong after his game against Spain. "Amazing. Jeremie (Frimpong) was one we'd discussed; if you can find him quickly and he can approach a full-back, he's lethal," Koeman told media.
"To keep his eyes open, especially before the second goal... He is a big threat and pressures well. His speed is an amazing weapon."
The former Everton and Barcelona boss did not have Jurrien Timber to his availability due to illness. RB Leipzig defender Lutsharel Geertruida got the nod at right-back and did a good job, according to Koeman. "Apart from only a few moments, Geertruida and Hato did very well against two good players."
The Netherlands and Spain drew 2-2 in the first leg of the UEFA Nations League quarter-finals. The return will be played this Sunday, March 23rd in Valencia's Estadio Mestalla.
