Black Stars head coach Otto Addo has unveiled a 23-man squad for Ghana’s crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying matches against Chad and Madagascar.

After failing to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), these fixtures represent a pivotal moment for the team as they aim to secure their place at next year’s tournament in the USA, Canada, and Mexico.

The squad is headlined by newly appointed captain Jordan Ayew and deputy captain Thomas Partey, who returns to the national team after missing four AFCON qualifiers due to injury.

Also making a return is Southampton winger Kamaldeen Sulemana, who has fully recovered from a long-term injury.

Jerry Afriyie of CD Lugo retains his spot after an impressive showing against Niger last November, while Belgium-based Christopher Bonsu Baah, a rising star at Genk, has earned his debut call-up.

The team also includes three home-based players: Benjamin Asare of Accra Hearts of Oak, Kamaradini Mamudu of Medeama SC, and Razak Simpson of Nations FC.

Despite the strong squad selection, Ghana will be without several key players due to injuries. Notable absentees include Alidu Seidu (ACL rehab), Tariq Lamptey (ankle ligament injury), Abdul Mumin (knee injury), Joseph Painstil (quadriceps), and Abdul Fatawu Issahaku (ACL rehab).

Ghana currently sits second in Group I with nine points from four matches, tied with leaders Comoros on points but trailing on goal difference.

The Black Stars began their campaign with a narrow 1-0 win over Madagascar before suffering a setback against Comoros. However, back-to-back victories against Mali and the Central African Republic have reignited their qualification hopes.

The team will host Chad at the Accra Sports Stadium on Friday, March 21st, before traveling to Morocco to face Madagascar on Monday, March 24th.

The Black Stars will begin preparations on Monday, March 17th, at the Accra Sports Stadium.
