From Gennaro Gattuso's first win as Italy coach to Germany's shock defeat in Slovakia, Flashscore has selected the Winners and Losers of the weekend's action.

Winner: Gennaro Gattuso (Italy)

Gattuso's debut with the Italian team could not have been more successful. Italy had to win against Estonia in Bergamo and they did just that. Although the game stalled in the first half (0-0 at the break), the goals came flying in after the restart as Italy eased to a 5-0 triumph.

Gattuso opted for an attacking lineup, with Zaccagni and Politano on the wings and two natural strikers: Retegui and Kean. It was the strikers who were the architects of the victory.

The Fiorentina striker opened the scoring, the former Atalanta man scored a brace and Raspadori, who replaced Zaccagni in the 67th minute, scored a goal and provided two assists. Bastoni netted the fifth.

Loser: Germany

Germany began the 2026 World Cup qualifiers with a 2-0 defeat in Bratislava against Slovakia. This result is a historic event for German football, as it represents the first away defeat in World Cup qualifiers for the German national team. Slovakia's goals came from Hancko and Strelec.

However, Julian Nagelsmann's side got back on track on Sunday in Cologne with a 3-1 win over Northern Ireland, thanks to goals from Gnabry, Amiri and Wirtz.

Winner: Memphis Depay (Netherlands)

The Corinthians striker set up Dumfries for the opening goal in Thursday's 1-1 draw between the Netherlands and Poland. With this assist, Memphis Depay equalled Wesley Sneijder as the Netherlands' top provider with 33 assists. Behind him are Robben and Van der Vaart with 28 and Bergkamp with 24.

But it didn't stop there. On Sunday he scored in his team's 3-2 win over Lithuania to become the Netherlands' all-time top scorer with 51 goals. He surpasses Robin van Persie, who ended his career with 50.

Loser: Real Madrid Femenino

Pau Quesada's side have not had the best start to the season. In just two rounds of LaLiga F they have accumulated one point from a possible six and are already five behind arch-rivals Barcelona.

On Friday, they lost the derby against Atletico Madrid 2-1. Lauren gave the colchoneras the lead, Sara Dabritz equalised in the 72nd minute, but 11 minutes later Luany gave the Rojiblancas all three points.

Winner: Cristiano Ronaldo (Portugal)

The Madeira star can't get enough of scoring at the age of 40. Ronaldo contributed a brace to Portugal's 5-0 win over Armenia in Yerevan in the first match of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.

With these two goals, Ronaldo has now scored 140 goals for Portugal, consolidating his lead in the list of all-time leading scorers for national teams. He also has 943 in his career, bringing him closer to his target of 1,000 goals as a professional.

Loser: Thomas Tuchel (England)

There has been plenty of criticism of England's national coach after a drab victory at Villa Park against a weak Andorra side. The 2-0 scoreline, with an own goal from Christian Garcia and a Declan Rice header, was deemed insufficient by the British press. In the reverse fixture, England also beat Andorra by the narrowest of margins.

However, the Three Lions have now made it four wins out of four before facing Serbia on Tuesday, so the road to next summer's North American showpiece is still well on track.

Winner: Spain

The national team are unbeaten in 27 competitive matches and are just two shy of their best-ever run, achieved by Vicente del Bosque between 2010 and 2013.

Luis de la Fuente's side have started their run to the 2026 World Cup in style. They defeated Bulgaria 3-0 on Thursday and put on a real show on Sunday in Konya against Turkey.

A clean sheet against the Ottomans, with three goals from Mikel Merino, two from Pedri and one from Ferran Torres, has boosted their hopes for the North American tournament.

Loser: Horatiu Moldovan (Romania)

The Romanian national team goalkeeper, currently on loan at Oviedo from Atletico Madrid, was one of the strugglers of the weekend.

In the friendly between Romania and Canada in Bucharest, which the North Americans won, he inexplicably gave away a 2-0 lead to Vancouver Whitecaps striker Ali Ahmed, who did not pass up the chance.
