Spain's World Cup qualifier against Georgia this Saturday at the Martinez Valero stadium in Elche could be at risk if the heavy rain that is due to fall in the Alicante region continues and extends into the weekend.

"Civil Protection Alert. Risk of flooding in LITORAL SUR ALICANTE due to heavy rain," begins the text message that citizens received on Thursday, October 9th, warning them of the torrential downpour of water that is expected to fall from 10 am on Friday.

It asks people to avoid travelling, not to cross flood zones and to respect traffic closures.

This instability and alarm come just a few hours before the Spanish national team arrive in Alicante for the 2026 World Cup qualifier against Georgia, scheduled for Saturday at 20:45 CET.

This match, therefore, will depend on the weather, but the training session that Luis de la Fuente's internationals are due to hold will certainly be complicated.
