The 22-year-old Dane, No 41 in the world rankings, played her way through to the third round at the Australian Grand Slam tournament on Wednesday morning with a crushing win against the 37-year old German veteran Tatjana Maria, No. 90 in the world rankings.
Before Wednesday's game, which took place at Court 7 at Melbourne Park, Tauson had called German Tatjana Maria's style of play "irregular".
The Dane was aggressive from the start, and she had clearly prepared for the German's special style of play where she slices the ball both from the backhand and forehand.
Maria never had any answers to Tausons aggressive approach and the Dane was in full control throughout the match.
"I felt that I handled her special style well and I took the lead from the start. I may have looked a little silly at times and made some bad mistakes, but in the end I felt like I had the upper hand" said Tauson after the game.
"I played according to the plan we had laid out (with coach Kasper Elsvad), and luckily it was a good plan", said Tauson.
Tauson is now ready for the third round, where none other than world No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka awaits. The 26-year-old Belarusian was also in action Wednesday morning where she defeated Jessica Bouzas Maneiro in two sets.
The 26-year-old Belarusian has won the Australian Open the last two times.
"It's a great match, I get to play. Of course, it is a shame that you have to play against the world's best tennis player in a Grand Slam and at a time when you are in good shape."
"But it's just a really cool match, and hopefully we'll be playing on one of the biggest courts, said Clara Tauson.
The match has not yet been scheduled, but is expected to be played on Friday morning.
