The Netherlands' Billie Jean King Cup team have failed to make the finals after a dramatic loss to Great Britain.

After both teams beat Germany earlier this week, a direct confrontation between the two top-placed teams would determine who would qualify for the Billie Jean King Cup Finals in Shenzhen, China.

After Eva Vedder lost the opening match in three sets against Sonay Kartal, the Netherlands' top player, Suzan Lamens, surprisingly beat the 40th-ranked Katie Boulter in straight sets. After snatching five straight games en route to a 4-6 win in the first set, Lamens did the very same thing in the second set from 3-1 down, making optimal use of all three break chances.

The concluding doubles match would be crucial in the battle for a spot at the Billie Jean King Cup Finals. Lamens and doubles specialist Demi Schuurs took on Jodie Burrage and Katie Boutler. The British duo soon showed their fighting spirit as Lamens and Schuurs were forced to fight back from a 5-2 deficit following the second break of the first set..

After losing the opening set 6-2, Lamens and Schuurs had it all to do in front of the home crowd in The Hague. The second set would soon show more of the same British dominance, however, as Boulter and Burrage snatched five straight games on their way to another 6-2 set win and a Billie Jean King Cup Finals seed.

The women's World Cup of tennis will be held in November in Shenzhen, China. In addition to Great Britain, the qualified teams include hosts China, title holders Italy, Spain, Kazakhstan, and Ukraine.
