Holger Rune has been forced to withdraw from next ATP 500 tournament in Rio de Janiero. Rune hasn't fully recovered from a case of the flu which also played a part when he lost Mariano Navone in his first match of the ATP 250 tournament in Buenos Aires.

"He is not healthy. The body is not healthy. He started training again too soon after suffering from the flu where he had a very high fever. So it was hard, and therefore the body is far too weak right now. He must take it easy and get well again," says Holger Rune's mother Anneke Rune to BT.dk

Consequently he is forced to withdraw from the ATP 500 tournament in Rio de Janeiro. The decision comes after he lost in the second round to Mariano Navone on Thursday night at the ATP 250 tournament in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

During that match the Dane also struggled to to find the energy needed after a week's illness.

"He was completely grey in the face yesterday (Thursday, ed.). Absolutely crazy," says Aneke Rune.

After that defeat Rune wrote on Twitter: "Looking back I think it was too early to play after my influenza last week. My shoulder was not working and the whole body seemed extremely vulnerable . I will take the time and get proper rest now. When the body is not there , the brain shuts down and I am just very sorry I couldn’t deliver what I wanted on court today. Sorry Argentina"

Holger Rune will consequently not be in action until he takes part in ATP tourmnament in Acapulco at the end of the month, where he reached the semifinals last year.
