The WTA action continues in Mexico and Brazil with quarter-finals to come later today, but first, we have some enticing Davis Cup qualifiers to get through. Follow all the drama with us here!

22:40 CET - Jelena Ostapenko has been stunned in Guadalajara by Marina Stakusic as the Canadian edged a three set thriller 6-4, 6-7 (6-8), 6-2.

21:45 CET - The theme continues as another nation takes a 2-0 lead in Davis Cup qualifying as France take a 2-0 lead against Croatia. Arthur Rinderknech has outclassed veteran player Marin Cilic to win 6-2, 6-4.

21:27 CET - England's Francesca Jones has continued her good run in Sao Paulo to book her place in the semi-finals after beating Solana Sierra 6-3, 6-4.

21:15 CET - Austria have produced another shock win in their Davis Cup clash against Hungary to take a 2-0 lead. 

Austria's world number 173 Lukas Neumayer got the better of Hungary's Marton Fucsovics in three sets, 6-3, 3-6, 7-6 (9-7).

20:15 CET - Corentin Moutet has avoided a potential shock result to get France off to a winning start against Croatia, beating Dino Prizmic in three sets 6-4, 5-7, 6-1.

19:30 CET - A bit of a shock result in Sao Paulo as exciting young Filipino Alexandra Eala has lost in straight sets against Indonesia's Janice Tjen

Tjen booked her place in the semi-finals with a dominant 6-4, 6-1 in just over an hour.

19:05 CET - Argentina are 2-0 up and in control of their own destiny in their Davis Cup clash against the Netherlands. 

Argentine number one Francisco Cerundolo was in no mood to waste time as he dismantled a tough opponent on paper in Botic Van De Zandschulp 7-6 (7-4). 6-1 in under two hours. 

17:36 CET - Jurij Rodionov has stunned Fabian Marozsan in the Davis Cup, claiming an exciting 6-2, 6-7(5), 7-5 win to put Austria 1-0 up against Hungary.

17:05 CET - The action on the WTA Tour gets underway in just under an hour, with rising star and third seed Alexandra Eala first up in Sao Paulo, as she takes on Indonesia's Janice Tjen.

16:20 CET - First blood to Argentina in their tie against the Netherlands, as Tomas Martin Etcheverry has clinched a hard-fought 6-4, 6-4 win over Jesper de Jong to make it 1-0.

14:20 CET - Play is now underway in the second Davis Cup tie of the day, between the Netherlands and Argentina.

13:25 CET - Following Germany's dominance against Japan earlier today, there is still plenty of Davis Cup action to look forward to this afternoon.

Play begins in 35 minutes between the Netherlands and Argentina, before Hungary face Austria. Croatia and France will go head-to-head shortly after, which is followed by a very exciting clash overnight between the USA and the Czech Republic, as Frances Tiafoe takes on Jiri Lehecka and Taylor Fritz meets Jakub Mensik.

11:36 CET - Jannick Hanfmann has put Germany 2-0 up and in a strong position in their Davis Cup tie against Japan, after claiming a straightforward 6-3, 6-3 victory over Shintaro Mochizuki.

09:40 CET -  Germany have the lead over Japan in their Davis Cup qualifier after Jan-Lennard Struff beat Yoshihito Nishioka 6-4, 6-7, 6-4 in the first singles rubber of the tie in Tokyo.

07:55 CET - In the very last of Thursday's matches in Guadalajara, fourth seed Magdalena Frech has beaten Lucrezia Stefanini  6-1, 7-6 in a rain-interrupted encounter.

07:15 CET - Hello and welcome to our coverage of the tennis on Friday. The Davis Cup second-round qualifiers are the main event throughout the day, before we head over to Sao Paulo and Guadalajara in the early evening as the quarter-finals get underway in those tournaments.

First up, Japan are taking on Germany in the iconic men's team tournament in Tokyo.

To give you some context, this is the second round of qualifiers for the Davis Cup proper; the winning seven teams from this round will all feature in the Final 8, along with Italy, who have qualified as hosts and champions.
