Holger Rune on Saturday afternoon suffered what looked to be a season-ending injury when he was forced to withdraw from the semi-final of the ATP 250 tournament Stockholm Open when he was leading 6-4, 2-2 against the Frenchman Ugo Humbert.

It looked serious when the Dane was suddenly struck by severe pain around the right ankle in the middle of a point. 

Rune immediately left the court in obvious pain and was in tears. "I think I have torn my Achilles tendon, Rune said to the physiotherapist when he came onto the side of the court to examine the Dane.

Soon after, the Dane limped into the dressing room with the help of the therapist. 

The Dane had won the first set at the time of the injury, and the score was 2-2 in the second set.
