It's a bumper day of first-round action at the Madrid Open, with Belinda Bencic, Gael Monfils and Emma Raducanu among those taking to the court at the prestigious Masters 1000 event.

23:08 CET - The final match of the day in Madrid has come to a close as talented young player Flavio Cobolli has beaten Fabian Marozsan 7-6 (7-4), 7-5 to progress to the second round.

22:08 CET - Gael Monfils came from a set down to book his place in the second round at Madrid after beating qualifier Borna Gojo 1-6, 6-2, 6-4.

21:25 CET - Qualifier Juan Cerundolo has caused somewhat of an upset to progress in Madrid as he defeats Aleksandar Kovacevic 3-6, 7-5, 6-2.

20:40 CET - Alexander Bublik edged to victory in the first round of Madrid after winning two tiebreaks 7-6 (7-2), 7-6 (7-4) against the talented Alex Michelsen.

20:24 CET - Former US Open champion Bianca Andreescu, who is playing in just her second match since October after returning from injury, got back to winning ways with an excellent 6-2, 6-4 victory over McCartney Kessler.

20:08 CET - After reaching the final in Rouen last week, OIga Danilovic has continued her good form in Madrid, easing past two-time Grand Slam champion Victoria Azarenka, 6-4, 6-2 to move into the second round.

19:57 CET - Sticking with the women's side and Germany's Eva Lys has wasted no time in booking her place in the next round after beating qualifier Teodora Kostovic 6-2, 6-2.

19:52 CET - Despite an impressive comeback in the second set, Francesca Jones is out in Madrid after world number 46 Dayana Yastremska beat her 7-6 (7-5), 4-6, 6-3.

18:48 CET - Francisco Comesana has claimed his first ATP 1000 victory and another win in 2025 against a top 50 player. The Argentine won in straight sets, 6-4, 6-4, against Pedro Martinez in his home tournament. 

18:43 CET - Staying with the WTA side of the tournament, Moyuka Uchijima has also come from a set down to defeat wildcard Robin Montgomery 1-6, 6-4, 6-3.

18:15 CET - Anastasia Potapova battled back from a set and a break down against Ashlyn Krueger, eventually clinching a 6-7(7), 6-4, 6-2 victory in a really entertaining two-hour and 12-minute clash.

18:10 CET - Veteran Fabio Fognini was swatted aside in Madrid, with Laslo Djere cruising to a 6-2, 6-3 win over the Italian.

Meanwhile, Roberto Bautista Agut sealed a hard-fought victory on home soil, battling past fellow Spaniard Jaume Munar, 6-4, 2-6, 6-3

17:56 CET - In a battle between the Kudermetova sisters, it was older sibling Veronika who came out on top, brushing aside 21-year-old Polina, 6-2, 6-2.

17:52 CET - Sebastian Ofner is the latest man through in the Spanish capital, with the Austrian securing a relatively routine 6-4, 6-3 win against Hugo Gaston.

17:02 CET - American qualifier Ethan Quinn has progressed in Madrid after an impressive 6-3, 6-4 triumph over experienced Serb Dusan Lajovic.

16:53 CET - Emma Raducanu is safely through to the second round after edging a hard-fought opening set to see off the challenge of Suzan Lamens 7-6(4), 6-4.

Qualifiers Rebeka Masarova, Anna Blinkova and Yuliia Starodubtseva have also progressed in the Spanish capital.

16:14 CET - Maria Sakkari has secured a morale-boosting victory in Madrid, battling through a competitive clash against Xinyu Wang to prevail 6-4, 7-6(7) in just over two hours.

Elsewhere, world number 41 Nuno Borges recovered from a set and match point down to eventually outlast Pablo Carreno-Busta 6-7(7), 7-6(3), 6-3.

15:10 CET - Argentinean qualifier Maria Lourdes Carle has produced an upset in the Spanish capital, cruising to an impressive 6-3, 6-2 win over world number 38 Rebecca Sramkova.

14:55 CET -  American duo Alycia Parks and Bernarda Pera have both moved into the second round in Madrid with comfortable straight-set victories.

14:28 CET - After being handed a wildcard, former US Open champion Marin Cilic has been sent packing from Madrid, with the 36-year-old suffering a 6-3, 6-2 defeat at the hands of Benjamin Bonzi.

14:12 CET - Belinda Bencic was in ruthless form this afternoon in Madrid, sweeping aside Turkey's Zeynep Sonmez 6-0, 6-2 in just 61 minutes. Anastasija Sevastova is also through after a 6-4, 7-5 victory over Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova.

Meanwhile, on the men's side of the tournament, Christopher O'Connell has sealed his spot in the second round, with the Aussie defeating Camilo Ugo Carabelli in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4.

12:56 CET - Qualifier Diane Parry is through to the next round in Madrid after a routine 6-3, 6-4 triumph over Romania's Irina-Camelia Begu.

Elsewhere, Arthur Rinderknech and Federico Cina have also claimed first-round wins.

12:35 CET - Mariano Navone has produced a mini upset in Madrid, with the Argentine defeating the big-serving Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard in relatively comfortable fashion, 6-4, 6-4.

Meanwhile, on the women's side of the draw, Katie Volynets and Ann Li have progressed to the second round after straight-set victories over Petra Kvitova and Aliaksandra Sasnovich respectively.
