Elmer Moller has qualified for the first round of Wimbledon for the first time ever after Casper Ruud chose to withdraw from the tournament.

For the first time in his career, Elmer Moller will enter the main event at a Grand Slam tournament when Wimbledon begins on June 30th.

Norwegian contender Casper Ruud has withdrawn from the tournament with minor inflammation in the knee, and since the 21-year-old Dane is the first reserve, he will not have to play in the qualification and will go straight into the main tournament.

It was not long ago that Elmer Moller made his Grand Slam debut at the French Open, when he qualified for the French Open as a so-called "lucky loser".

In the tournament in Paris, the Dane, who is ranked 110 in the world, lost in four sets in the first round to American Tommy Paul, who is ranked eighth in the world.

The fact that Ruud will not be ready for Wimbledon does not come out of the blue.

Ruud's participation has long been doubtful, and on Saturday evening, his manager, Tina Falster, confirmed to the Norwegian news agency NTB that the Norwegian star will not be ready.

"He is back on the court and it is going well, but it is unfortunately too early to have to play the best of five sets", says Ruud's manager to the Norwegian news agency.
