The first legs of the UEFA Europa League quarter-finals transpired on Wednesday and Thursday. Two of the ties have one team in a great spot to advance, while the other two are even going into next week. Here is a stat for all eight clubs left in the competition.

14 Braga were unable to hold onto their first-half lead against Real Betis, as Florian Grillitsch's early flick was cancelled out by a Cucho Hernandez penalty at the hour mark. The match ended 1-1 in Portugal, meaning that anything could happen in Seville next Thursday.

Braga, who have enjoyed an excellent UEL season, have found the back of the net in all but two games thus far. At home, they have scored in each of their last 14 matches stretching back to last term.

4 - Betis, chasing a second straight European final after making the Conference League showpiece last spring, were struggling for the early exchanges of the second period before the penalty. That goal could prove to be the difference, especially since they host the return match.

Whether Los Verdiblancos can go one step further - something they have never done in the UEL - is another matter. With that said, Betis are winless in their last four knockout round away fixtures (0-3-1).

9 - The biggest winners of the matchweek were Freiburg, who played another excellent home game to top Celta Vigo 3-0. A first-ever semi-final is within reach for the Germans, should they finish the job next week in Spain.

In what was their third match against Spanish opposition, Freiburg managed to earn a win for the first time. Like several teams left in Europe, Breisgau-Brasilianer have looked good at home. All-time, they have now kept nine clean sheets in home continental matches.

13 - To say Celta had an off day would be quite the understatement. Os Celestes chose the worst possible time to concede three in one match, something they have done seven times in continental play.

Six of those occasions came on their travels. Perhaps more troubling for them is the fact that, unlike their other matches in the UEL this term, Celta failed to score. It saw a run of 13 continental games with at least a goal come to an end.

16 - The other Portuguese team in this stage, Porto, drew 1-1 at home to Nottingham Forest. Although they took the lead, Dragoes could only enjoy the advantage for a mere two minutes before Martim Fernandes put the ball in his own net.

Perhaps even more disappointing for the hosts was the fact that they created so many opportunities to get the win. Overall, Porto had 16 attempts in the match, almost triple that of Forest.

3 - Forest will certainly be the happier of the two teams going into next week's decider at the City Ground. The Tricky Trees did not create nearly as much as their opponents, but will return home with confidence that they can progress.

Should they advance, Forest will match their best run in the UEFA Cup/Europa League, something they achieved back in 1983/84. Thave drawn three matches this term in Europe, all on the road, plus they are unbeaten in their three knockout round away matches (2-1-0).

1 - Bologna were the only home team to lose this matchweek, which is perhaps ironic. Vincenzo Italiano's men fell 3-1 to the heavily-favoured Aston Villa, making their quest to make a first semi-final in 27 years all the more challenging.

I Rossoblu had more than enough chances to score more goals, having outshot Villa 19-8, yet they find themselves in a challenging spot. Instead, Bologna suffered their first-ever home loss in the competition, ending a 20-game unbeaten streak.

8 - Ollie Watkins' second-half brace proved to be the difference-maker at Stadio Renata dall'Ara, where Villa are on the cusp of making a second continental semi in the last three seasons. Unai Emery's side were clinical on the attack, which lifted them to victory.

Winning has become a theme in the UEL this term for Villa, who prevailed for the 10th time in 11. However, this is their eighth consecutive win, their longest run in a UEFA club competition ever.
