A new era kicked off in the UEFA Women's Champions League on Tuesday and Wednesday with the opening round of the competition's new league phase. After goals galore, here is one stat from each of the matches from the week.

OL Lyonnes exact revenge on Arsenal

9 - Juventus opened up the new league phase by coming from a goal down to get the better of Benfica 2-1. Lucia Caterina Sousa Alves scored the first goal of the UWCL proper under this format, but her side could not hold on in the end. Since the 2021/22 season, when the Women's Champions League adopted a group stage, Juve now have nine victories in that time - qualifiers excluded.

5 - Paris FC and OH Leuven played out an exciting 2-2 draw in the French capital. The Belgian champions, who are the first side from their country to reach a UWCL group phase, overturned a 2-0 deficit in the second half, and nearly snatched all three points at the death. While both sides will be disappointed not to claim the full complement of points, Leuven still remain undefeated in Europe in what was their fifth game (3-2-0).

13 - There was no messing around from last season's finalists, Barcelona, who kick-started their UWCL campaign with a 7-1 beating of German champions Bayern Munich. Five different players found the back of the net for the three-time winners, who have scored at least three times in each of their last six European away games. For Bayern, they have conceded 13 goals versus Barcelona all-time, with the seven let in on Tuesday being more than their previous four matches combined.

11 - It was revenge for OL Lyonnes - formerly Olympique Lyonnais - as they recovered from an early goal to beat holders Arsenal 2-1. Daelle Melchie Dumornay grabbed a five-minute brace, which the record UWCL winners held on to for the final 67 minutes. Lyonnes will be relieved to get off to a winning start to this season's competition, notching their 11th success over WSL opposition in the process (11-3-4).

Twente claim impressive point, Atleti dominate

19 - Dutch champions Twente produced the most surprising result of the matchweek, taking the lead shortly past the hour mark against Chelsea. The Blues did respond eight minutes later, but were held to a 1-1 stalemate in Enschede. Although they could not claim the win, it is still quite the showing from Twente, who are playing at this stage of the tournament for the second year running. As for Chelsea, their unbeaten run in the group stage/league phase has been extended to 19 games with the draw.

16 - A back-and-forth first half in Spain ended up seeing Real Madrid run away with a 6-2 success against AS Roma. Alba Redondo and Caroline Weir both scored braces for Real, who reached the quarter-finals last term, to victory. The Italian side continue to show their struggles on the road, with that being their third straight reverse in an away match in the UWCL proper. During that torrid run, the Giallorosse have conceded 16 times.

6 - Atletico Madrid could not have asked for a better start to their maiden group phase appearance with an impressive 6-0 win at St. Polten. A four-goal first-half haul at the NV Arena sent the Spanish club well on their way, before Fiamma Iannuzzi added a late double to put the match beyond doubt. Atleti enjoyed their largest ever margin of victory in UEFA club competition history in that six-goal showing.

3 - Maya Le Tissier's 31st-minute penalty separated Manchester United and Valerenga, as the former prevailed 1-0 at home. The Norwegians mustered just three shots in the 90 minutes as they slumped to an opening round reverse. To be fair, it was not the first time Valerenga lost to an English club. In fact, all three of their UWCL games against WSL teams ended in defeat for them. Arsenal also topped them twice in last season's group stage.

8 - Wolfsburg showed that they meant business, with their 4-0 success against Paris Saint-Germain being quite the statement. A pair of goals in either half - which included an own goal and a penalty - did the damage from the Frauen Bundesliga outfit. Across five head-to-heads against their French opponents, Wolfsburg have now scored eight times in total, with half of them coming in Wednesday's result. They are now 3-1-1 versus PSG.
