The Ohio State Buckeyes' starting quarterback Julian Sayin will make his first career start on August 30th - but there's a historic stat that stands before him.

Sayin will be starting against the No. 1-ranked Texas Longhorns. In the last 20 years of college football, no quarterback making his first start against a No. 1 team has ever won.

The overall record? 0-18.

The Sophomore saw a little playing time in 2024, going 5-12 from the pocket for 84 yards (7.0 average) and a touchdown.

However, the hype around Sayin is starting to bubble before the big game.

"That arm is different," said Buckeyes receiver Jeremiah Smith. "He can make any and every throw. Just a smart quarterback. He's definitely going to be a guy. It's going to be scary for opponents."

Sayin was a five-star, No. 2-ranked quarterback coming out of high school. He originally committed to Alabama, but it lasted just nine days after he hit the transfer portal following former head coach Nick Saban's retirement.

The Buckeyes are coming off a National Championship win over Notre Dame and are entering the new year ranked at No. 3 (Penn State at No. 2).

Texas received 25 first-place votes in the preseason poll (see the full top-25 here).
