The 29-year-old Norwegian Johannes Hosflot Klaebo on Sunday set a remarkable record when he won the Tour de Ski for the fifth successive time to send a stern signal to his opponents before the Winter Olympics in Milan in just a month.

Competing on the course being used for the upcoming Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympic Games, Klaebo sounded a warning to his rivals in the men's event just over a month before the Olympics.

Klaebo matched Dario Cologna’s record of four overall victories a year ago, and he is now the most successful skier of the six-day stage race.

Klaebo won four of the six stages in the men's event at the 2025-26 edition, and enjoyed a one-minute and 23-second cushion going into the deciding mass start 10km freestyle race, which proved consequential.

At the start of the climb, just over three kilometres from the finish, Klæbo was still in control with no one challenging the Norwegian at this point.

But Klaebo's advantage slowly melted away at the final kilometre of the gruelling climb on the Alpe Cermis as Mattis Stenshagen started to chip away at Klaebo’s lead, cutting it in half as they approached the peak.

Stenshagen prevailed and secured first place in 33:25.5, but his valiant effort was not enough to deny Klaebo of his overall Tour de Ski crown.

Klaebo finished the stage in 12th place, crossing the finish nearly a minute behind Stenshagen. Jules Lapierre of France finished the stage in second place, timing 33:32.1, with Emil Iversen taking third in 33:45.9.
