At the time, it also stood as the world record for attendance at a handball match.

Regular season:
14 teams face each other home and away in a total of 26 matches during the regular season.
The top 8 advance to the playoffs/finals.
Teams ranked 9 through 14 advance to the new qualification/relegation round.
New Structure for Qualifiers and Relegation:
The teams (ranked 9–14) carry all their points from the regular season over to the qualification round.
All teams in the game play against each other once.
The team finishing last after the qualification round is directly relegated to the 1st Division.
The team finishing second-to-last (the team with the second-fewest points) must play a playoff against a team from the 1st Division for the final spot in the Men's League.
