For the fourth year running, Flashscore presents its ranking of the top 100 NBA players ahead of the upcoming season. Still at number one is Nikola Jokic - an individual force who elevates his team, but might yet need to raise his game and leadership to another level.

If we simply ask, 'Who is the best current player in the NBA?', there is no debate. Stronger and more complete than anyone else, Nikola Jokic remains an incredible player.

Last season alone, he finished as the NBA’s eighth-leading scorer, while leading the league in rebounds and assists with the Denver Nuggets. Once again, it was a historic achievement - and there have been too many to count.

Since winning his first MVP award in 2021, he has never finished lower than second in the race for the trophy. There is no stronger proof that he is the best player of the decade.

However, while he managed to win a championship, the team’s collective confidence has gradually faded. That was even more evident after their emphatic and unexpected first-round playoff exit against the Timberwolves last season.

He no longer needs to prove his individual talent: he is an extraordinary player, and everyone knows it. Now, his main challenges are collective.

Denver appeared to be reaching the end of a cycle, but with a player like Jokic at the helm, a return to the top cannot be ruled out. Nevertheless, the Nuggets could well fall apart if they suffer another disappointing campaign this season.

And what about the Serbian centre? People often say that his talent alone is no longer enough. That is partly true here. But can individual talent make up for the team's decline?

There is no question about Jokic's track record. He will once again be an unparalleled force this season. And the statistics will likely represent only part of his greatness.

If there is a championship at the end of it all, given the competition and the NBA's emerging stars, his legend will grow even further. For now, he will have to make do with being the best player in the world.

2025/26 stats: 27.7 points on 56.9% shooting, including 38% from three-point range, 12.9 rebounds, 10.7 assists (65 games)

Reasonable 2026/27 target: 30 points, 14 rebounds, 12 assists, MVP candidate
