Staal, 38, will be entering his 21st year in the league, 15th with the Canes, after leading the team to their second-ever Stanley Cup title this past season.
“Jordan is not only our captain, he’s the bedrock of the culture we’ve established in this organization,” said Hurrcianes General Manager Eric Tulsky. “His leadership and on-ice performance throughout last season and especially in the playoffs was a primary factor in bringing the Stanley Cup back to Raleigh.”
The Captain finished the recent Cup run with eight goals and four assists in 19 games as he became the oldest player ever (37) to win the Conn Smythe. He is the oldest player in the history of the league to record at least six goals in a Stanley Cup Final.
Staal also set the record for most seasons (17) between winning two separate Stanley Cups. He scored at least one goal in five straight games during the Stanley Cup Final to tie an NHL record, joining only five other players to do so in the past fifty years.
Carolina ultimately defeated the Vegas Golden Knights in six games, with the long-time veteran Staal at the forefront. Staal needs just three more points to hit the 750 mark for his career (318 goals, 429 assists).
The Canes will start their 2025-2026 season against the Florida Panthers on September 29th.
