After a week dominated by stories and punishments following a fireworks incident in their away end, Feyenoord sought to continue a fine start to the season with Ouassama Targhalline starting ahead of Charles Vanhoutte. Javi Lopez was given his first start of the season, with Mika Marmol shifting to the centre and pushing Jeremiah St. Juste to the bench.
A positive start yielded nothing for Feyenoord, who even conceded the first goal of the afternoon after Targhalline lost possession in midfield, after which Nigel Thomas' shot from distance flew into Tjark Ernst's far corner for a surprise ADO lead.
Feyenoord tried to up the ante and get back in the game, but Van Bronckhorst's men failed to create more than one big chance, which Ueda fired at Kilian Niekiema's feet.
It went from bad to worse for Feyenoord shortly after the break, with Sekou Sylla capping off a fantastic ADO counter with a likewise rocket off the bounce that put Feyenoord down two on home turf.
Ayase Ueda pulled one back for Feyenoord after being all alone for a cross from Targhalline, who found the Japanese striker in the back of the box before Ueda fired it underneath Niekiema.
Feyenoord's leaders finally stood up deep in the second half, with Anis Hadj Moussa the next star to get on the scoreboard - Sem Steijn found Hadj Moussa on the counter, the Algerian trickster cut back to his preferred left foot and fired a trademark shot past Niekiema to get Feyenoord back alongside.
The hosts pushed in the final minutes, but couldn't create much again as ADO Den Haag left Rotterdam with a sensational first point of the season.
After their 2-2 draw against Go Ahead Eagles two weeks ago, Feyenoord were held winless at home for the second time in as many games this season, giving manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst much to think about ahead of next week's visit to NEC Nijmegen.
