FC Midtjylland is bolstering its attack with the signing of left-footed winger David Martínez.
Martínez has long been regarded as one of his country's top talents. He made his national team debut in June 2023 at just 17 years of age and has represented Venezuela seven times at the senior level.
Over the course of his career, the 20-year-old attacker has recorded 138 senior appearances, 27 goals, and 15 assists. He previously played for his boyhood club, Monagas SC, in his home country before moving to the USA.
In addition to his MLS experience, the new Midjylland player has represented Los Angeles FC in both the FIFA Club World Cup and the Concacaf Champions Cup—the North and Central American equivalent of the Champions League.
Despite his young age, David Martínez already possesses years of senior-level experience, and according to Sporting Director Kristian Bach Bak, the time has come for the Venezuelan to take the next step in his development.
"Martínez has played senior football from a very young age and has already completed many seasons at a high level. He has put himself in a great position early in his career, and now he is ready to make the step up to European football. We hope and believe that he can take the next step in his development here with us," says Bach Bak.
Martínez joins a squad that already includes several young South Americans. Furthermore, the club has Mexican coach Rodrigo Prieto on the coaching staff; he speaks Spanish and can assist the Venezuelan with the transition.
"We have a lot of players in his age group whom he can lean on from day one, while also having Rodrigo on the coaching staff. We can see that his profile and key strengths fit really well with the way we want to play – with aggressive pressing and individual players who can decide matches," says Kristian Bach Bak.
