Premier League Team of the Week: Semenyo shines as Brobbey leads the ratings

Brighton dispatched Arsenal 3-0 in the weekend's most eye-catching result, while Brentford downed Chelsea by the same scoreline.

Manchester City won a wild game 5-3 against Sunderland, Aston Villa condemned lowly Tottenham to a 3-2 defeat, and Coventry beat Nottingham Forest 1-0 to earn their first win.

Senne Lammens (Manchester United) 8.1

Belgium goalkeeper Lammens was called upon quite frequently by Manchester United as they battled to a 1-1 draw at Fulham.

Lammens prevented 1.49 goals (xGOT) by making six saves and stopping two big chances, and was unfortunate as he was beaten by teammate Lisandro Martinez.

Defenders

Jannik Schuster (Brentford) 8.1

Summer signing Schuster enjoyed a strong outing in Brentford's comfortable demolition of free-scoring Chelsea.

Schuster's back-post header allowed Jaidon Anthony to open the scoring, while he also made a game-high 12 clearances and three blocks.

James Tarkowski (Everton) 8.8

Tarkowski helped Everton maintain their unbeaten start to the campaign as he marshalled the defence in their 1-0 win over Ipswich.

He assisted the Toffees' eventual winner, albeit in fortunate circumstances, as his long-range volley hit Thierno Barry and trickled into the net.

A rock defensively too, Tarkowski won nine out of 10 duels and made seven clearances and four interceptions to preserve the clean sheet.

Josko Gvardiol (Manchester City) 8.3

Gvardiol came away from City's crazy win with his third goal contribution to begin the season.

The Croatian's low cross found Erling Haaland, who capped off the scoring, while he also made a clearance off the line.

Midfielders

Rayan Cherki (Manchester City) 8.2

Cherki brought an aura of calm amongst the chaos as the pendulum swung back and forth between City and Sunderland.

The Frenchman tucked away City's second goal and supplemented his performance with two key passes and a game-high 61 accurate passes.

Johan Manzambi (Aston Villa) 8.6

A goal and an assist on Manzambi's full Villa debut will give him plenty of confidence on his return from injury.

Manzambi tapped in the opener before the break and flicked a ball for Nicolas Jackson to dispatch for Villa's second.

Pascal Gross (Brighton) 8.3

Brighton's Gross is in a rich vein of early-season form, and he dealt reigning champions Arsenal plenty of damage.

The 35-year-old rifled in the Seagulls' opener via the post and took a perfect corner for Chema Andres to extend their lead in the second half.

Morgan Gibbs-White (Nottingham Forest) 8.2

Gibbs-White did the best he could for Forest as they dropped to a narrow defeat at home to new boys Coventry.

He was a creative livewire despite the poor result, with no player making more key passes (six), passes into the box (five) or final-third passes (27).

Antoine Semenyo (Manchester City) 8.6

Semenyo hushed any murmurs about his productivity with contributions to three of City's five goals. He smashed in two clinical goals to open his scoring account this term and fed in Cherki for his strike.

Semenyo completed each of his 29 passes attempted, recorded three key passes, while no player made more progressive carries than him (10).

Forwards

Brian Brobbey (Sunderland) 9.4

Brobbey stole the show on an individual level with a surprising hat-trick against City, although he will be bitterly disappointed to have ended on the losing side.

The Dutchman drew the Black Cats level twice and reduced the deficit in the second half to complete his treble. He took five shots in total and was a nuisance for City's defenders, winning 10/12 duels and drawing five fouls.

Nicolas Jackson (Aston Villa) 8.2

Giving Spurs' defenders a constant headache, Jackson came away with a deserved goal to help Villa secure their first win of the season.
