Reigning Danish champions AGF were 90 seconds from securing their first Superliga win of the season, but—as has happened so often before—luck was not on the side of the Aarhus outfit.
AC Horsens scored twice in the dying minutes to salvage a 2-2 draw at home, leaving AGF to head into the international break as the only team in the league yet to win a match.
AGF had appeared to be in control following goals from Magnus Knudsen and Callum McCowatt but failed to hold firm when it mattered most. AGF sit in 11th place, while Horsens just barely squeeze into the top six.
The defending champions' defensive play has been shaky of late, and trouble arose in front of the Aarhus goal early on once again. Kelvin Ehibhatiomhan found himself with a golden opportunity but fired a low shot wide of the far post.
Clinical finishing was generally in short supply in Horsens, though AGF gradually took the initiative and created several decent chances. Two of those fell to Mikael Anderson, who failed to hit the target with either his right foot or his head.
Luck was in short supply—symptomatic of AGF's season so far. It was missing again when Tobias Bech fired a shot wide shortly after the break; last season, he would almost certainly have scored in a similar situation.
But then, the tide turned. Just before the hour mark, Magnus Knudsen hammered the ball home from long range, blasting the visitors into a 1-0 lead following a couple of shaky clearance attempts by the home side.
AGF players and coaches roared with delight, and ten minutes later, there was more cause for celebration. Substitute Callum McCowatt was quick to latch onto a long goal kick from Mads Hedenstad, and the New Zealander's somewhat tame finish was enough to beat Matej Delac.
Horsens saw more of the ball, but AGF remained solid in defense and appeared to have things under control—at least until Jakob Bonde headed in a looping ball with two minutes remaining.
This set up a nail-biting finish, and in one of the match's final sequences, a free kick from Ivan Milicevic sailed all the way into the net at the far post.
