After securing their first-ever league phase points earlier in the tournament, Danish outfit HB Koge are riding high on confidence but faces the ultimate test against Europe's finest, FC Barcelona, when the two sides clash on Thursday evening in the women's Champions League.

Barcelona have never lost against a Danish team, having drawn twice with Brondby in the 2013/14 round of 32 (0-0 h, 2-2 a) and beaten Fortuna Hjorring in both legs of a round of 16 tie in 2020/21 (4-0 h, 5-0 a). They have scored 18 goals in their six matches against Danish clubs, conceded just two.

The only previous meetings between the sides was in the 2021/22 group stage, when Barcelona won 2-0 in Denmark on Matchday 2 before completing their 100% record in Group C with a 5-0 Matchday 6 victory in Spain.

"There is no better club team in the world. There might be a couple that could compete with them in a single match, but there is no one better," said HB Koge coach Kristian Mork to the international media on Wednesday.

Barcelona’s women’s team practically swept the board at Monday’s Ballon d’Or ceremony, and the Køge coach has no hesitation in hyping the match up as something truly extraordinary.

“This will be one of the biggest club matches on Danish soil this year. Personally, I actually think it’s the biggest. I can’t imagine anything surpassing this. So, it’s a major event, and it’s going to be incredibly exciting to be a part of.”

While the Danish side's 5-1 win at home to Servette on Matchday 2 was their first group stage/league phase victory after losing their first seven games at this stage, Barcelona, who have beaten Paris FC (5-2 h) and Roma (6-0 a) in this season's league phase, have lost only one of their last 23 Women's Champions League matches (W20 D2).
