Sam Lammers, 29, has signed a two-year contract in Eindhoven.
Lammers spent 10 years in the PSV academy before leaving the club in 2020. The striker played 20 league games for PSV before his departure, scoring 4 goals along the way.
After being demoted to the role of third striker behind Wout Weghorst and Lucas Vennegoor of Hesselink at FC Twente, Lammers was set to leave the club. With Alassane Plea out injured again, a return to PSV was soon on the cards.
"This really feels like coming home. It’s incredible to see how the club has been building – both literally and figuratively – in the meantime," Lammers said on the club website.
"The academy has had a massive upgrade in terms of facilities, the first-team side has been completely refurbished, and I haven’t even mentioned all the improvements to the stadium. PSV is on the up; you can tell from everything.”
Lammers left PSV for Atalanta in 2020 and has since played for Eintracht Frankfurt, Empoli, Sampdoria, Rangers, FC Utrecht, and FC Twente. He rarely impressed, scoring 60 goals in 249 total senior appearances.
Despite this, Lammers and director Earnest Stewart are excited about the striker returning to Eindhoven.
"Right from the very first phone call, the feeling was absolutely great on both sides. For me, it was a no-brainer to return to PSV. Everything just clicks now. I’m back and really looking forward to it, full of new energy and ambition," said Lammers, who was Stewart's top target for the role of backup striker behind Ricardo Pepi.
"We were still looking for a strong addition to the striker position, and Sam was at the top of all our lists," Stewart said.
"He fits in very well with PSV’s style of play, has a wealth of experience, knows the club well and is a proven goalscorer. What’s more, he has the right mentality and knows what it takes to perform at PSV. We are therefore delighted that Sam is back in Eindhoven."
Lammers is PSV's seventh summer signing after Filip Kostic, Lutsharel Geertruida, Kodai Sano, Sven Mijnans, Sami Ouaissa, and Ayoni Santos, who joined earlier on Wednesday.
