Title winners
Starting in Guadalajara, teenage sensation Iva Jovic captured her first title of 2026 after a dominant 6-4, 6-2 victory over compatriot Peyton Stearns in Saturday's final.
Having cruised through the draw at the WTA 500 tournament, seeing off Zeynep Sonmez, Magdalena Frech and Cristina Bucsa (all without dropping a set), the 18-year-old American was equally ruthless in the showpiece with Stearns.
Second-seeded Jovic converted 77% of points behind her first serve and didn't face a single break point throughout the contest, as she comprehensively defended her crown in Mexico.
Having reached her maiden Grand Slam quarter-final in Melbourne at the start of the year, as well as progressing to the second week at both Wimbledon and the US Open, Jovic has certainly underlined her credentials as one of the sport's most exciting talents.
"I'm just happy with the improvements I've made throughout the year," Jovic told reporters after the final. "I think I've shown that I'm a more complete and better player than I was this time around last year."
As a result of her Guadalajara success, Jovic is up to a career-high ranking of 13th in the world, and given her continuous improvement over the past 12 months, a top-10 debut is surely just around the corner.
Spain's Kaitlin Quevedo was another winner on the WTA Tour, as the 20-year-old rallied from a set and a break down to outlast Nadia Podoroska 4-6, 6-4, 6-2 in Monday's rescheduled Sao Paulo final.
Seeded seventh at the WTA 250 event, Quevedo was clinical in the key moments against her Argentinian opponent, converting six of nine break-point opportunities to secure a maiden WTA title.
"I was just going match by match, trying to compete the best I could, and in the end, I was able to win the trophy," Quevedo told reporters. "I'm really proud of my efforts, not just this week, but for so many years I've been practicing and playing tennis."
Having only made her tour-level debut in January at the Auckland Open, Quevedo has now crowned her debut season with a title in just her eighth main-draw appearance.
Over on the ATP Tour, Davis Cup qualifying took centre stage, with the headline story coming in Prague, where the Czech Republic dumped out record 32-time winners USA for a second straight year to seal their place in the Final 8.
Led by Jakub Mensik and Jiri Lehecka, the Czechs repeated last year's shock victory in Delray Beach, as Lehecka claimed an excellent 6-3, 7-5 win over Learner Tien in the deciding rubber.
That followed another eye-catching triumph for Lehecka over US Open runner-up Ben Shelton, as the United States' wait for a first Davis Cup title since 2007 goes on.
Joining the Czech Republic in Bologna for the Final 8 will be history-makers South Korea, who saw off India 3-1 in Seoul to secure their first-ever place in the Davis Cup Finals.
Kwon Soon-woo was the hero for Jong-Sam Chung's team, thrashing Sumit Nagal 6-1, 6-2 to earn the decisive point for the Koreans.
"I feel very proud for my country and every team I play against, I give my best," said Kwon. "When I play in a team, I know that I can't let my teammates down."
Fresh from his success in New York, newly-crowned US Open champion Alexander Zverev helped Germany to a 3-1 victory against Croatia, with the 29-year-old registering a pair of comfortable wins over Matej Dodig and Dino Prizmic.
The talismanic Zverev will be determined to carry his form into the latter stages of 2026, as Germany bid to win the Davis Cup for the first time since 1993.
Elsewhere, Spain, Great Britain, Canada and Austria all sealed their spots in November’s Final 8, while Italy qualified automatically as reigning champions.

Biggest strugglers
Just five days after his US Open final defeat to Zverev, Shelton was back in action for the United States in their Davis Cup qualifier against the Czech Republic.
However, as mentioned in the previous section, the world number four was unable to lead his nation to the finals in Bologna, as he surprisingly lost both of his singles matches, albeit to top-level opponents.
Shelton was comfortably beaten in straight sets by Lehecka on Friday, before the 23-year-old fell agonisingly short in a three-set epic against Mensik the following day, sending the tie to a decisive rubber which Lehecka clinched against Tien.
Meanwhile, in Guadalajara, Bianca Andreescu’s desperate run of form continued, with the Canadian losing in straight sets to Spain’s Bucsa in the opening round of the WTA 500 event.
The former US Open champion, who has been ranked outside the top 100 since May 2025 due to a series of injuries and inconsistent form, has now lost five of her last seven matches.
Those two victories came in US Open qualifying before she fell to Tamara Zidansek in the final round, with the 26-year-old last securing a win on the WTA Tour all the way back at the Italian Open in May.
Standout moment
Holger Rune marked his long-awaited return to competitive action with a superb couple of days in Hillerod as Denmark clinched a dramatic 3-2 victory over Bulgaria to seal their place in the 2027 Davis Cup qualifiers.
Sidelined for 11 months after rupturing his Achilles tendon at the Stockholm Open in October 2025, the 23-year-old proved comfortably too strong for Iliyan Radulov in his opening match, prevailing 6-3, 6-3.
"It’s been pretty brutal. It was obviously an unfortunate injury, but we’ve trained a lot. I’ve got up every day to do rehab just to be here. It’s the perfect way for me to start, in front of the best crowd in the world," he said after his win over the world number 596.
Rune took to the court again 24 hours later, and despite losing the opening set to Grigor Dimitrov, the Dane roared back to claim a mightily impressive 3-6, 6-3, 7-6(4) triumph in just over two hours.
Having failed to serve the match out at 5-4, Rune regrouped and held his nerve admirably in the deciding-set tie-break, providing hope he can once again become a leading figure at the top of the men's game.
Best rallies
Guadalajara runner-up Stearns produced a moment of magic in her brilliant semi-final victory over eighth seed Liudmila Samsonova.
Rafael Jodar was in a class of his own against Cristian Garin, as the 20-year-old helped Spain qualify for the Davis Cup Finals with a comprehensive win.

We've got a busy week of team events ahead, with the prestigious Billie Jean King Cup Finals taking place in Shenzhen, while the Laver Cup returns to London for its ninth edition.
