Jonathan Milan on Friday afternoon won the gold medal in the individual pursuit at the Track Cycling World Championships in Shanghai, defeating Denmark's Frederik Rodenberg in the final.

Already in the individual pursuit qualifying, Milan broke his own individual pursuit world record at the UCI Track World Championships on Friday.

The 26-year-old clocked a time of 3:58.850 in qualifying for the 4km event in Shanghai, China, becoming the first rider in history to go below 3:59.

In the final, the Italian star rider was incredibly impressive, leaving Frederik Rodenberg to settle for a silver medal at the World Championships in Shanghai.

After the first 1,000 meters, the Dane was already trailing Jonathan Milan—who had exploded out of the starting blocks—by more than a second. Rodenberg simply had no answer for that.

Instead, Jonathan Milan extended his lead all the way to the 4,000-meter mark, winning convincingly with a time 5.269 seconds faster than Frederik Rodenberg’s.
